They still need refinement, but the first pass annotations of all three volumes of The Ballad of Halo Jones are now posted. Jones is full of clever references inserted by Ian Gibson and Alan Moore.

In addition to panel by panel annotations for Book One, Two, and Three, there are also pages on unfinished volumes, and publication history. Find all the pages via this site’s Annotations Index page.

Halo Jones Annotations Underway

The Ballad of Halo Jones, 2013 edition

Anybody could have done it. But they didn’t!

The Ballad of Halo Jones, by Alan Moore and Ian Gibson, has been around since the mid-1980s. Until now, it hadn’t been subjected to the nit-picking scrutiny of internet annotators. The Panelwise team decided to leap into that void! Find in process Halo Jones annotations at the Annotations Index page.

Look over the sections that are more or less completed (as of today that’s volume/book one) and use the comments to let us know what we missed or got wrong.

Annotations for Smax 5 posted

Smax – art by Gene Ha

The Panelwise team decided to come up with new expanded annotations for issue five of the Smax comic by Alan Moore and Zander Cannon – with Andrew Currie, Richard Friend, Wildstorm FX, and Todd Klein.

For this May 2004 issue, there are very brief basic annotations available at Enjolra’s World – written by Paul Andinach in 2010. But, on a re-read, there were a few more references we wanted to add, so we decided to build on Andinach’s work.

We still have a few questions about some parts of Smax that maybe appear to reference something. Read through the issue 5 annotations page, and use the comments to let us know about things we missed.

All our annotations are available through the Annotations Index page.

Annotations for The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: The Tempest issue 6 are posted – though we’d never claim they were entirely complete. We’ll keep updating as commentators and annotators spot new things. To quote Moore: “Nothing ever ends.”

LoEG Tempest issues 1 to 4 Annotations Up

Panel from The Tempest #4, art by Kevin O’Neill

There are still plenty of references to be identified, but our crack league of laudatory annotators have weighed in on Alan Moore and Kevin O’Neill’s first four issues of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Volume 4, The Tempest.

Find all Tempest annotations via our handy Annotations Index page.

Exciting news on the horizon, too!

According to ComicsList, LoEG: The Tempest issue five is due out next week – on Wednesday March 27! Go easy on the comments on the issue 5 annotations page until we’re able to post our first run-through draft.
